Doctor’s Appointment

The girls had check-ups today.  I rarely take them to the doctor.  What is a “well baby” visit anyway?  They tell parents to take their healthy newborns to the doctors office every few weeks only to subject them to germs in the waiting room, tell you that your baby is healthy (which you already know), and then they poke them with several needles full of chemicals, carcinogens, and diseases.  I assume it’s a way for doctors and insurance companies to get more money.

We have a great pediatrician!  Newborns never wait in the waiting room.  The doctors have never scolded me for missing a “well baby” visit or yearly check-up or for choosing to delay vaccines (or not get some at all).  I think that the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) vaccine recommendations are completely worthless.  Part of their funding come from vaccine manufacturers….and that alone is enough to consider their recommendations null and void.

The first time I took Juliana to the pediatrician, they recommended five shots!  I knew very little about vaccines or the illnesses they prevented, but I wouldn’t let them give her five shots (for an 8 week old, it’s six shots now).  I let them give her DTaP, Hib, and Prevnar, because I didn’t know anything about them except that they were recommended.  I did NOT let them give her polio since that has been eradicated or Hepatitis B because it is only trasmitted through blood and my kids are not using dirty needles, having a blood transfusion, or anything else.  Hepatitis B is given to all newborns before they are discharged from the hospital, unless you request otherwise and sign a waiver saying that you are risking your child’s life, bologna…

Today, the doctor showed me the nearly blank paperwork where they mark the date each vaccine was given and asked me if I wanted any to be given to the girls.  Juliana got her first MMR shot, which is probably unnecessary, but it’s recommended and there have been a few cases of measles and mumps in the U.S.  Emma got DTaP and Hib today, and will get a second round of DTaP and Prevar (PCV) in a few months.  I think people who never give vaccines are great, and I wish I were confident enough to make that decision.  For now I’d rather put my kids at risk by having them injected with formaldehyde, thimersol (mercury), and other chemicals and carcinogens than risk the diseases.

I will not let my kids get the Varicella (chicken pox) vaccine, because it is made with aborted fetal cells.  They will not get Hepatitus B, although I’m pretty sure most colleges require it now, so we’ll see about that when the time comes.  Rotavirus can only be transmitted through the “fecal-oral route,” poop in your mouth…pretty unlikely, although when Juliana was little she put poop in her mouth.  In the rare case that one gets this virus, it causes diarrhea only.

A bill (HR 875) is up for passage in Congress within the next week to ten days. It is an attack on the organic food movement and production and even attacks the freedom of back yard gardeners–requiring that specific fertilizers and insect sprays are used to “make sure there is no danger to public food supples.” The very name of this proposed legislation is outrageous: Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 (bill HR 875). Please contact your Congressmen and Senators to oppose this bill and urge friends and relatives to do the same. THE BEST THING TO DO IS GO TO www.house.gov/writerep All you have to do is put in your zip and it will give you your congressperson and how to get in touch with them. Call them and express your views on HR 875. They’ll take your name and address and pass your comments to the congressperson. The following link is a list of the US Senators and their contact info: http:/www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm _________________________________________________________________________________________

In my opinion chemical fertilizers should be banned, the very opposite.  If the government keeps going on like this, they’ll have to drag me kicking and screaming to jail!

I’m taking the girls to Fountian Square on April 15th.  Anyone want to join us, or carpool?

Juliana has been wearing the same dress for five days straight!  It’s purple, of course…and still clean!

I made two batches of kulich this week and they are so bright yellow because of the good eggs.  I have been getting eggs from a friend who lets her chickens live like chickens should live, naturally.  The eggs have flavor like no other…and I don’t think I can bring myself to buy eggs from the grocery store again.  Once you eat a real egg, the grocery store kind taste like water.  This reminds me of Starbucks.  I was never a big coffee drinker, and certainly not picky about coffee until I started drinking Starbucks.  Although, there are many other great coffees other than Starbucks.

In the five minutes it took me to type this, Emma got rubber stampers and stamped her face, hands, arms and feet.  Good thing we don’t have to go anywhere today.

I have not posted anything in a long time.  The weather has been nice and I just haven’t been in the mood to sit at the computer.  Why do some people update their status on facebook 15 times per day?  No one cares when you take a bathroom break, or what you’re eating for dinner.

We’ve done tons of fun things lately, so check out our photo website if you haven’t lately.  I’m uploading pictures from our trip to the zoo yesterday!
