The kids are having a party for international womans day today.  I asked the other moms last week when international mans day was, and there isn’t one.

Today, I decided to read more about the history of international womans day:

The red text translates:

The 8th of March: A day of rebellion by working women against kitchen slavery.

The grey text in lower right reads:

Say NO to the oppression and vacuity of household work!”

“Women’s Day was first celebrated in 1913 and in 1914 was proclaimed as the “day of struggle” for working women. For decades after the October Revolution (1917) the observance served as a propaganda tool for the Soviet government. In the 1920s-1930s the government encouraged women to become educated and enter the working economy, because, according to Soviet propaganda, capitalist oppression had been removed and there was no longer any need to “struggle” under the new regime. During the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945) the government recruited women for support positions in the Red Army. During the 1940s the government dropped any attempts to improve the situation of women, and for the next decades it boasted about how Soviets had benefited women.”

It was declared a holiday in Russia in 1917 by Vladimir Lenin.

To belittle a stay at home mom and housewife is bothersome to me.  I love my job.

So with a guilty conscience, I will take the kids to the party tonight.
